Grundfos - Sustaining life under the desert sun

In the high desert of southeastern Arizona, Josiah T. Austin has spent 40 years bringing a degraded landscape back to life.
But in a place with no rivers, lakes or surface water, everything depends on one thing: getting water to where life needs it.
Across tens of thousands of acres, twelve solar-powered Grundfos pumps quietly draw water from deep underground and send it through more than 150 kilometres of pipelines.

When the sun comes up, the pumps come to life – moving water from wells to tanks and troughs, carried across the land by gravity.
What began as a solution for cattle has become the lifeblood of an entire ecosystem, giving wildlife and native grasslands the water they need to return and thrive.

Today, Cienega Ranch is an “island in the desert” – home to cattle, birds, bees, deer, mountain lions and endangered species that have found their way back.
For Josiah, the pumps are more than machinery; they are part of a vision measured not in years, but in generations.
Because he isn’t restoring the land for tomorrow – he is building for the next 100 years.
